The Master of Special Education from the University of Wollongong delivers specialized training for qualified instructors to take up special teaching positions in schools. Non-school teachers who want to enhance their general knowledge and skills in special education for young people can also make the program. This grade provides sound theoretical foundations as well as broad practical skills that address the broader aspects of education and training. You will have the opportunity to incorporate resources from other areas of education such as Educational Leadership or Information Communication Technology in education and training, to be more relevant to your career.
This Special Program is meant at students with special needs or disabilities such as: learning challenges, physical disabilities, communication challenges, emotional or learning difficulties. Special education is different in the form of general education through the format and delivery of information that is tailored to the specific needs of the learner involved in the process.
Students in special education learn about specific teaching strategies and different teaching methods that are suited to the category of learners in which the subject is being taught. They will develop skills such as: creativity - as they will need to apply creative ideas in learning activities, good interpersonal skills, the ability to recognize feelings and physical and mental needs to adapt or change teaching strategy. Students of special education are desirable to have original qualities, such as: understanding, patience, understanding and flexibility. Typical career paths for graduate students of special education are: medical profession, special education teacher, social worker / childcare, teacher assistant, special education counselor and teaching coordinator.
